Our After school Programs

Enjoy our education programs at your school or organization! Writing Workshops, and Residencies custom designed to fit your curriculum! We offer an after-school literacy program using storytelling and creative drama to help children develop their critical literacy skills and to transform them into storytellers of their own lives. Professional Teaching Artists partner with schools to deliver multiple sessions that include interactive storytelling, hands-on activities, and creative writing! We believe that active, playful and participatory storytelling contributes to children’s language and literacy development.

Bring LAWC Teaching Artists Directly to You! We offer a variety of tools to make learning more engaging and effective. Our goal is to showcase the students’ innate creativity and celebrate their ability as writers. In a series of subsequent creative writing and drama workshops led by LAWC teaching artists, students explore elements of storytelling as they write about and act out the topics that are on their minds. The curriculum is designed to spark the imaginations of the students, to help them give form to their ideas, and to help them think about new ways of telling stories. The teachers are there to guide the students in creating detailed and appropriate stories, while avoiding imposing their own ideas or editorial comments on the work of the students.

LAWC provides extensive after-school enrichment programing in schools giving students an extended atmosphere in which to play, write and develop their creativity in a safe and structured environment. We work with parents on a per program basis to create customized classes throughout the school year and during the summer. Programs can incorporate elements of drama, play and screen writing, poetry, song, dance and even film-making.
